About Batman: The Animated Series

While there have been multiple tellings of the Caped Crusader — from comic books to television series to movies — Batman: The Animated Series is considered to be one of the best.

Debuting in 1992, Batman: The Animated Series was hailed as a groundbreaking superhero show. The series received praise for its writing, art design, voice acting, orchestrated soundtrack, and modernization of its title character’s source material, resulting in multiple Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Programming.

The series starred the legendary Kevin Conroy as the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman with Loren Lester as Dick Grayson/Robin, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Alfred Pennyworth, Bob Hastings as Commissioner Jim Gordon and Robert Costanzo as Detective Harvey Bullock.

Perhaps one of the most iconic castings was Mark Hamill — yes, of Star Wars — as the voice of The Joker. Other notable baddies include Ron Perlman as Clayface, Roddy McDowall as the Mad Hatter, David Warner as Ra’s al Ghul and Michael York as Count Vertigo.

The series was also responsible for the creation of Harley Quinn, who became so popular that DC Comics later added her to mainstream comic book continuity. Quinn was voiced by Arleen Sorkin in the series.

Those who are interested in watching Batman: The Animated Series can catch all 85 episodes on Max.
