LEGO Mario Kart sets coming in 2025

March 10th is Mario Day (MAR-10, get it?). In celebration of that LEGO hosted a special stream to reveal three upcoming Mario-inspired sets: The Bowser Express Train set, King Boo’s Haunted Mansion, and the Battle with Roy set.

All three sets look incredible, but it was at the end of the stream when LEGO made the biggest announcement of the day. We are about to get new sets based on Mario Kart!

Unfortunately, we don’t know what they look like yet or which characters or tracks will be featured. The end of the video was just a small teaser that concluded by saying the LEGO Mario Kart sets will be coming in 2025.

“Ready, set, build!” the video teases. “Racing in 2025.”

About Mario Kart

A spin-off of the Mario franchise, developed and published by Nintendo, the Mario Kart franchise is a series of go-kart racing games. Although most of the characters and courses are from the Mario franchise, the series sometimes incorporates characters from other Nintendo IPs, such as The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, F-Zero, Excitebike and Splatoon.

Mario Kart first debuted in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Super Mario Kart was met with critical and commercial success.

There have since been a total of 14 Mario Kart games spanning six home consoles, three on handheld consoles, four arcade games (developed with Namco), and one mobile game.

The franchise has sold over 178 million copies worldwide.

What to expect from LEGO Mario Kart

I’m expecting LEGO builds for some of the Mario Kart racers and their karts. Some may be standalone and fairly large — something similar to Bowser’s Muscle Car Expansion — but I also expect some sets to replicate the various courses. The one that easily comes to mind is Rainbow Road! With a release coming sometime next year, it might be a while until LEGO officially unveils some of these sets.
