FX on Hulu’s Emmy-winning comedy-drama The Bear was recently renewed for a third season in November. But now there are reports that the series has also been picked up for a fourth season.
Citing multiple sources, Deadline reports that The Bear Seasons 3 and 4 will film back to back in Chicago.
FX has not yet officially announced Season 4, though.
Season 3 of The Bear will premiere in June. The FX show streams exclusively on Hulu.
The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White (Shameless) as Carmy Berzatto, an award-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage the chaotic kitchen at his deceased brother’s sandwich shop. The series also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott and Matty Matheson.
The Bear synopsis reads:
A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he’s used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother’s suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family.
The Bear has received critical acclaim for its writing, directing, acting and production values. The first season received ten Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and acting wins for White, Moss-Bachrach, and Edebiri. The Bear has also won four Golden Globe Awards, with acting wins for White and Edebiri and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2024.
With this updated filming schedule, some are concerned that Season 4 could mark the end of the series. As Deadline notes, a similar production and filming process was done for FX’s comedy series Atlanta, which ended after shooting Seasons 3 and 4 back to back.
