Monster Hunter Stories

Monster Hunter Stories gets Summer 2024 release for Switch, PS4 and PC

Nintendo has announced Monster Hunter Stories will launch on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC via Steam this summer on June 14, 2024. The sequel, Monster Hunter Stories: Wings of Ruin will also arrive on the same day for PlayStation 4.

This is a remastered version of the first Monster Hunter RPG, and will be fully voiced. Originally released for Nintendo 3DS, this is a spin-off of the Monster Hunter series and features a completely new gameplay structure.

Players take on the role of a Rider instead of a Hunter, and befriend monsters by stealing eggs and hatching them (instead of, well, hunting them). Once hatched, players can fight alongside these friendly monsters and execute special kinship techniques. Combat is performed through a turn-based battle system.

The synopsis reads:

Embark on a journey into a colorful world where mighty monsters roam and people make a living by hunting them. Nestled within this land lies a hidden village where the locals follow a different set of customs. Here, Monster Riders form bonds with Monsties instead of hunting them. Unlike Hunters, Riders forge bonds and harness the power of kinships stones, allowing them to explore the vast and exhilarating realm together. Fight together in thrilling battles, hatch Monstie eggs, and customize your companion to suit your style.

Monster Hunter Stories improvements

Players can expect numerous improvements from the original, including refined graphics such as improved modeling, textures and lighting in high definition. Additionally, the game now has fully Japanese and English voiceovers with additional language support. A Museum Mode includes the game’s background music and developer sketches for you to delve deeper into the world.

Monster Hunter Stories is playable on the Nintendo 3DS, and there’s also a high-definition version available on mobile devices. Of course, if you’ve never played the game, you should probably just wait for its release on Switch, PS4 and PC. We don’t have an exact release date, but look out for more details soon!
